Macintosh Dialup Configuration Using the Internet Setup Assistant - OS 8, OS 8.5, OS 9

These instructions are based on Macintosh computers using Operating System 8 (OS 8) and the Apple Internet Setup Assistant. The instructions will also work for later versions of the Macintosh Operating System including OS 8.5 and OS 9; only the appearance of the self-help screens may vary slightly.

1. The Internet Setup Assistant should be located in either the Assistants Folder, or the Internet Folder on your Macintoshıs hard drive. Open the appropriate Folder and double-click on the Internet Setup Assistant icon (which is shown below).

 

2. At the following "Welcome" window, click the Yes button.

3. At the following "Internet Account" window, click Yes if you are already signed up for ValleySurf Internet. If you do not yet have a ValleySurf account, click No and call ValleySurf immediately to sign up for an account.

4. At the following "Introduction" window, read the text and then click the Right Arrow to continue.

5. At the following "Configuration Name and Connection Type" window, type ValleySurf in the space provided as shown below. Then click the circle next to Modem as shown below. Click the Right Arrow to continue.

6. At the following "Modem Settings" window, choose the modem and port that correspond with your computerıs configuration. Usually, the first modem indicated will be the one that is correct for your computer, and the Port will be "Internal Modem"; consult your computerıs documentation if unsure about this information. Leave Tone selected as shown below. Click the Right Arrow to continue.

7. At the following "Configuration Information" window, enter the ValleySurf dial-up number that is a local call from the site where you will be connecting to the Internet. Simply use our "Dial-Up Number Generator" to find a local number. You do not need to enter the area code. Next, enter your ValleySurf username and password in the spaces provided as shown in the EXAMPLE below. Click the Right Arrow to continue.

8. At the following "PPP Connect Scripts" window, select No as shown below. Click the Right Arrow to continue.

9. At the following "IP Address" window, select No as shown below. Click the Right Arrow to continue.

10. At the following "Domain Name Servers" window, enter the information exactly as shown below. Click the Right Arrow to continue.

11. At the following "E-mail address and password" window, enter your ValleySurf e-mail address and password in the spaces provided as shown in the EXAMPLE below. Leave the ">" symbol in the final box. Click the Right Arrow to continue.

12. At the following "E-mail account and host computer" window, enter the information requested as shown below (substitute YOUR ValleySurf email username in the place of "jsmith" in the example). In the second box, enter information exactly as shown in the example. Click Right Arrow to continue.

13. At the following "Newsgroup host computer" window, leave the box blank and click the Right Arrow to continue.

14. The following window asks if your computer is using a proxy server to access the Internet. Select No and click the Right Arrow to continue.

At the following "Conclusion" window, Congratulate yourself because you are done! Click the "Go Ahead" button and your computer will be ready to connect to the Internet using ValleySurf, where "the surf is always up". Happy Surfing!
